Dear Mr. Patrice Brun,

Russian State University of Cinematography n.a. S. Gerasimov (VGIK) is happy to invite your students to participate in the 2nd VGIK International Summer School, which will be held in one of the most interesting parts of Russia - Rostov Region (July 18-August 8, 2010).

Since Rostov region is known for its rich history and cultural heritance the 2nd International Summer School's motto is "The South of Russia. History and Modern Reality".

The 1st VGIK International Summer School timed to the 90th anniversary of VGIK and held in the city of Svetlogorsk, Kaliningrad Region, in 2009 was a great success. Along with lectures and workshops, summer school's participants took part in discussions on the most actual issues of contemporary cinema (scriptwriting, visual and sound design, editing and producing). Students from Russian and European film schools worked on improving their film scripts submitted to our selective contest under the supervision of the leading VGIK's professors and dedicated tutors.

As a result 1 feature film and 9 documentary films about Kaliningrad region were created. The film program was screened with a great success at the 6th International film festival "Baltic debuts" and excited the audience with its novelty and vividness.

This year we are going to broaden the limits of students' creative strivings and invite to our SUMMER SCHOOL not only students of directing, cinematography, production departments, but also acting students of Russian, European and CIS film schools.

We hope that fascinating nature of Rostov region, its originality and unique spirit will help the participants of the summer school to make their works deeper and more interesting to a wider audience of film and theatre fans.

The application form and participation conditions are attached.

Best regards,

Vladimir Malyshev,
Rector of VGIK, Prof.
